CHAPTER TWO
Paul begins instructions to Titus on how to build the church
Titus is to show the church sound doctrine, to the older men, the older women and how to treat children. Titus is to teach his congregation how to treat each other with respect and love. He is to tell them they are to be sober, be kind, to have faith, and be patient with others. He goes on to tell him how families should operate and the order of the family. This is something families today seem to forget or refuse to listen to. The Bible is true and if followed will bless everyone including families.
Paul goes on to say young and old need to follow directions of good works, which walking in love does. Christians should be authentic, respectful, and honest in their everyday life. Paul tells Titus to tell the women to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. In our day and age many feel this is out of place.
The word of God is never out of place. If people today would stand up to these rules our homes would be much happier. This is not a dictator thing; it is a fact that in every organization there must be a leader. In marriage God put the man as the head of the house. When God put men as the head of the home, He also told men to love their wives and be kind, God even told Abraham to listen to his wife and do what she said over how to deal with her handmaiden. So, marriage is definitely a partnership not a rule of law. When this is understood a home can truly walk in the love of God.
To the men he said exhort yourselves and be sober-minded, in things showing yourself to be doing good works; in communication have integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one coming against you will be ashamed, having nothing evil to say about you. Men are to treat their families with love!
Paul goes on to say if you work for someone, work for them as you would be working for God. Understanding you have a boss and need to do what the boss tells you. In our world today if you cannot do that, then you need to change jobs. Don’t work where ungodly things go on.
Paul finishes this chapter with this statement:
Titus 2:11-15 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
